HEAD COACH JON GRUDEN

(on Thursday’s practice)
“I don’t have any changes on the injury list. Everything is the same, but I’ll answer any questions that I can. Merry Christmas.”

(on the intensity level of Thursday’s practice)
“It was good. We obviously moved it back a little bit in the day so our players and coaches could be with their family, celebrating Christmas with the kids, the little ones. Guys came out focused and we had a good practice.”

(on Raheem Morris being named defensive coordinator)
“He’s been with me a long time and he’s had a lot of success here. He’s had his hand in a lot of real good things. I like this defense. I believe in it, and certainly believe in Raheem Morris. I believe he’ll be outstanding and we just wanted to make sure that our players knew and I just wanted to end the speculation, to be honest with you.”

(on Morris’ energy)
“I’m a big energy believer. I like guys with juice. I think you have to be a leader. I think you have to be able to motivate and stimulate these guys, relate to them – veterans, young players. He knows the kind of players we’re looking for. He knows the routine here in terms of what it takes to play in this system. I’ve been impressed with him throughout the six, seven years I’ve been with him. He’s had a year coordinating in the Big 12, and I think it’s the right thing to do. I think our players will respond to him.”

(on not talking about the future earlier in the week, but then naming Morris as Kiffin’s successor)
“It was Christmas last night and I wanted to give him a Christmas present. I thought that was a great gift to him. I’ve had my coordinators with me seven years – Bill Muir, Rich Bisaccia, Monte Kiffin. We’re going to lose a very key component to our unit. I just thought, being Christmas Eve, I wanted to give him something to be excited about and reward him for his hard work and efforts and I wanted our team to know that there is no more speculation. We’re going to keep the playbook somewhat the same. You guys know Raheem and know what his capabilities are and I was excited to do that.”

(on if Morris’ responsibilities will be the same this Sunday)
“Monte’s the coordinator and Raheem is going to get an opportunity as soon as it’s all said and done to put his stamp on things here.”

(on when he celebrated Christmas with his family)
“This morning. Last night we watched one of those old movies.”

(on the injury report)
“Derrick [Brooks] didn’t practice again. He was the only guy. It was exactly the same as yesterday. We’ve still got some nicks and bruises and things like that, but Derrick’s the only guy that didn’t practice.”

(on what a successful season is to him)
“It’s got to be winning Super Bowls. That’s the only thing that qualifies true success. Making the playoffs, I’ve been there and been eliminated and been yelled at, cussed out for the next six months before training camp. There are no complimentary bowl games for all of us to go to and maybe enjoy the offseason a little bit more. Senior Bowl, I’ve been there, done that. As a coach, you really try not to worry about all of that. You’ve got to look at your film, your cut-ups and you say, ‘Did our best players play their best football? Did we overcome some of the obstacles?’ You’ve got to keep everything into a true perspective and not everybody will agree with you, but did your team work and finish every day? We’re 9-6, and if you look around the league, that’s a good season by anybody’s standards. At the same time, as long as I’m in this position, winning championships and competing for championships is successful.”
